At LifeX, we are dedicated to fostering a community where every member feels at home. Our commitment is to provide equal treatment to all members, irrespective of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, or religion. Harassment of any form towards fellow members or staff is strictly prohibited. Therefore, we expect all members to adhere to our Code of Conduct and Anti-Harassment Policy outlined below. 

General Rules for All LifeX Members:

  1. Smoking and Drug Use: Smoking and drug use are strictly prohibited inside the house or through an open window. Smoking is only permitted outdoors, on balconies, terraces, or yards. Violations may result in fines.
  2. Pets: Keeping pets, including dogs, cats, or any other animals, are not allowed on the leased premises.
  3. Noise Disturbance: Members must avoid being a disturbance to others, especially during quiet hours. This includes keeping noise levels down in common areas, outdoor spaces, balconies, and terraces at designated times (after 10 pm on weeknights and midnight on weekends, for Germany after 10 pm all days of the week and no disturbances on Sundays).
  4. Event Notification: Members must notify other housemates at least 48 hours in advance when planning events in common areas, both indoors and outdoors.
  5. Waste Management: Sort trash according to provided bins, dispose of extraordinary waste at personal expense, and seal domestic waste in bags before placing them in designated containers.
  6. Water Conservation: Always ensure that toilets and taps are not running, clean drains regularly, and avoid flushing objects that can block the drain.
  7. Energy Conservation: Turn off lights when leaving the house and reduce heating when not on the property.
  8. Ventilation: To maintain air quality, ventilate the premises thoroughly during activities such as bathing, washing clothes, drying clothes, and cooking. Ensure consistent room temperatures of at least 18 degrees Celsius in all areas. Additionally, ventilate the space for 5-10 minutes, 2-3 times daily. Utilise the cooker hood and keep fresh-air vents in windows and doors open to promote airflow and circulation throughout the leased premises.
  9. Property Protection: Members are responsible for not damaging or stealing any property belonging to LifeX or other members. Damages will be deducted from the deposit.
  10. Defect Reporting: Members must notify LifeX immediately of any defects, damages to the leased premises, or pest infestations via issue reporting process.
  11. Technician appointments: Members shall try to be present during scheduled appointments with third-party contractors and provide access to the premises to ensure a fast issue resolution. 

Additional Rules for Members Living in Shared Apartments:

  1. Community Engagement: Welcome and assist housemates, participate in household activities, or communicate preferences with housemates.
  2. Respectful Behaviour: Understand house dynamics, coordinate with housemates, maintain cleanliness in common areas, and refrain from wearing street shoes indoors.
  3. Considerate Use of Amenities: Use amenities like radios, TVs, and laundry machines considerately, avoiding disturbances to housemates.
  4. Respect for Privacy: Refrain from moving common area furniture into private rooms and do not enter housemates’ private rooms without permission. 
  5. Use of vacant rooms: Occupancy of unoccupied rooms without permission from LifeX is prohibited. If any member or their guest is found to have used a vacant room without authorisation, they will be subject to an additional charge reflecting associated costs. Should no individual claim responsibility, the cost will be divided among all housemates in the property.
  6. Guest Policy: Inform housemates and neighbours of planned events, and adhere to guest policy regarding partners, family members, and friends, ensuring compliance with visitation guidelines:
  7. Partners (2-3 times a week): Partners may stay overnight, but it's essential to respect the house atmosphere and seek approval from housemates beforehand. Limit visits to about 2 times a week to maintain harmony.
  8. Family members & friends visits (less than 7 days): Inform housemates before hosting family or friends for short stays. Guests cannot stay for more than 7 days within a month without informing LifeX, which will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  9. Longer visits/stays (more than 7 days): Notify the LifeX team about longer stays, even if agreed upon by housemates, for consideration on a case-by-case basis. Housemates' consent is necessary before LifeX considers longer stays.

LifeX is committed to maintaining a harassment-free environment for all members. Harassment includes but is not limited to:

  1. Offensive comments or behaviours related to personal characteristics.
  2. Unwelcome comments on lifestyle choices or practices.
  3. Deliberate misgendering or use of past names.
  4. Gratuitous sexual imagery or behaviour.
  5. Unwelcome sexual attention or physical contact without consent.
  6. Threats, intimidation, or stalking.
  7. Unauthorised recording or publication of private communication.
  8. Harassment based on any aspect of a person's identity.


LifeX prioritises the well-being and satisfaction of its members. If you encounter any dissatisfaction or issues within your household, please reach out to us via our app or email at support@joinlifex.com. Following an assessment of the complaint's validity and severity, LifeX reserves the right to issue warnings that may result in fines and/or contract termination. We are committed to addressing complaints promptly and confidentially, engaging with both the complainant and involved parties. Members are informed that in potential harassment cases under tenancy law, witness statements may be required.
